Overcoming a Common Fasting Pitfall

Posted on with tag Christianity

By the time this goes up the Apostles’ Fast will be in full swing. Something I wanted to write about quickly is a common pitfall I have certainly found myself in and one I think many young Orthodox Christians also have. This pitfall is eating processed vegan food. There’s certainly an appeal to buying “vegan frozen chicken substitute” because it’s easy to make, it tastes pretty alright, and it doesn’t require totally retooling your cooking habits — you can pretty much keep eating how you did by replacing your intake with contrived vegan replications.

The issue is that this food is horrible for your body. What I’m trying to do, and you should too, is eat well by eating foods that aren’t replications, but just healthy fasting food like lentil soups that aren’t processed. If a loved one or someone you know is highly allergen sensitive, you’d realize just how many ingredients that these canned and frozen vegan foods have that your body really can’t tolerate.

So, for these next two weeks don’t try to just satisfy the rules of the fast by eating Vegan™️ but rather by eating healthy foods that are good for your body and require a time sacrifice by cooking. If your grandparents had to cook, what excuse do you have?
